The heat wave alert extends, 11 departments now placed in orange alert on Friday

Météo-France has revised upwards the magnitude of the heat wave that will touch France from this Friday. Six departments of the southern half of the country will be added to the five already placed in orange “heat wave” alert for Friday, which will mark the start of the second heat wave in France this summer, announced this Météo-France on Thursday.

Especially in Occitanie and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

In addition to the Haute-Garonne, Hautes-Pyrénées, Rhône, Tarn and Tarn-et-Garonne, are now concerned by this heat wave alert “six other departments which are the lot, Aveyron, Loire, Isère, Drôme and Ardèche”, carrying eleven the number of departments affected, announced during a press conference Olivier Caumont For the public establishment. To these departments are added 24 others from the southern half, placed for their part in yellow vigilance.

“From tomorrow will start the second heat wave in the summer of 2025 on the level of France, which will be the 51st heat wave listed by Météo France since 1947,” said François Jobard, forecastist, evoking “an episode which will mainly concern the South regions and which will be quite durable”.

Heat will continue at the start of next week

“From this Thursday, temperatures will display a widespread increase, the beginnings of a scorching episode which will start on Friday on the Southwest and the Center-East. The hot weather will tend to increase and extend the following days. They will continue at the beginning of next week, ”said Météo-France in his 4 p.m. bulletin.

“In the afternoon we expect from 36 to 38 ° C locally 39 ° C on a large part is Occitania and 35 to 37 ° C (locally) 38 ° C in the center-east,” specifies the bulletin. This warming is explained by “a real high pressure cover with hot air in the low layers (atmosphere) but also at altitude”, detailed François Jobard.
