The European Union court (EU) rejected, Wednesday, July 16, the appeal of the heirs of Jean-Marie Le Pen against a demanding decision of the former leader of the National Front (FN)-which has become a national rally (RN)-which it reimburses around 300,000 euros for industrial mandate costs to the European Parliament, according to a statement.
This affair is distinct from that of the ex-FN parliamentary assistants who earned, at the beginning of 2025 in Paris, convictions to several figures of the party including Marine Le Pen. It concerns personal spending by Jean-Marie Le Pen “Unducarily” Billed as mandate costs when he was MEP.
The Parliament reproached the co -founder of the far -right party, which was MEP almost without discontinuing for three decades, until 2019, for having registered a whole series of personal costs under “The budget line 400”intended to cover operating expenses in the only elected institution of the EU.
According to a report by the European Antifraude Wrestling Office (OLAF), it had been, by this means, to be reimbursed for expenditure of information bulletins, pens, business cards, ties, umbrellas, kitchen scales, office clocks, connected bracelets, virtual reality glasses or 129 bottles of wine.
Put around 300,000 euros
The secretary general of the European Parliament had notified, in July 2024, to Jean-Marie Le Pen which he was to transfer an amount of precisely 303,200.99 euros. The frontist leader had disputed this request and, after his death, on January 7, 2025, his three daughters, Marine, Yann and Marie-Caroline, had continued the current procedure as heirs, explains the EU court.
In its judgment, the court, established in Luxembourg, notes that the procedure of the Parliament having led to claim this reimbursement “Is not contrary to the principles of legal certainty and protection of legitimate confidence”. Accordingly, “The court rejects the appeal formed by Mr. Le Pen and his heirs”.
An appeal limited to law issues can be trained before the EU Court of Justice within two months and ten days from the notification of the decision, it is specified. Solicited by the France-Presse agency, the European Parliament said “Take note” of the court’s decision.
