The impossible bet? Yvan Verougstraete, the president of the commitments begins his mission as a facilitator to form a Brussels government

The “facilitator” Verougstraete therefore begins his mission this Monday. He will meet in bilateral all the democratic parties that will respond to his invitation. Then he will file a frame note from centrist political positions in order to generate convergence tracks. He therefore wants to focus on the substance – the program – rather than on the cast – which parties to form the coalition. Why not ? But the MR, before, had already more or less tempted the same approach by writing a draft program which he then submitted to the other political parties likely to join him. He had collected only cold indifference.

We can assume that Yvan Verougstraete leaves with an advantage compared to the MR, in the sense that his personality appears less closing than that of his MR counterpart, omnipresent since the end of the elections. In addition, the president of the committed is himself Brussels, unlike Georges-Louis Bouchez.

For the rest, the same obstacles stand on its way. At one time or another, it will be necessary to agree on the composition of the government. Even with a consensus on a program and a budgetary trajectory, the question of the participation or not of the N-VA will continue to arise. On the French -speaking side, the PS opposes it and the MR demands it. On the Dutch-speaking side, the Open VLD has so far made the presence of the N-VA a prerequisite for its own participation.

Will the facilitator manage to decide all these nodes by September 15? We ask to see.
