The man accused of attempted assassination against Trump in Florida can be tried without a lawyer

The man accused of having tried to shoot Donald Trump in Florida last September, Ryan Routh, could be tried without a lawyer to represent him, decided on Thursday the judge in charge of the file.

Ryan Routh, 59, was arrested on September 15, 2024 shortly after being fled by the police responsible for protecting Donald Trump. They had spotted it with a weapon near the golf course on which the Republican played, then a candidate for the American presidential election.

He had quickly pleaded not guilty, and was tried in September by federal justice in Florida.

On Wednesday, the lawyers committed to defend it asked to be noted from the file, ensuring that Ryan Routh refused to meet them several times.

On Thursday, Judge Aileen Cannon authorized him to defend himself, while saying that a lawyer will have to be available if necessary.

Ryan Routh had, in a letter written several months earlier, mentioned an “attempted assassination on Donald Trump.”

Donald Trump, since elected President of the United States, had already escaped in July 2024 from another attempted assassination when a shooter had opened fire during an electoral meeting in Pennsylvania (northeast), touching the ear and killing a member of the assistance.

The assailant had been shot by the police.
