The new Citroën C5 Aircrosss already photographed in the street before arriving in dealerships

Despite a presentation that dates back to the end of April, the new Citroën C5 Aircross will not arrive in dealerships until the next school year, in September. But certain copies of this family SUV with rafters are already walking on French roads, in the hands of collaborators of the Stellantis group which thus acts as guinea pigs in order to track down possible defects of youth. This allowed us to immortalize one of them, wisely parked in a residence in the Paris region.

You may have noticed it: it often flows a lot of time between the first official photos of a model and its arrival in dealerships. The second generation of Citroën C5 Aircross was thus announced by a concept at the Paris World Cup, in the fall of 2024, before revealing the first shots of its serial version at the end of April 2025. It then opened its order books in July 2025. But for deliveries, it will be necessary to wait until next September. This long period must notably allow the brand for the rafters to finalize the development of its new family SUV. Even if the essential is already frozen, some adjustments remain possible to refine the copy and above all correct various defects of youth. For this, dozens of copies have been entrusted to employees of the Stellantis group. It is one of them that we were able to photograph, as the markings on the body indicates that it is a test vehicle.

This meeting in “real life” helps to better realize the growth thrust suffered by the Citroën C5 Aircross. Especially since it took place in a 1960s residence, the places of which may seem close to the template of the latest breeders. Its width has indeed increased by 6 cm to reach 1.90 m without mirrors, while its length increased by 15 cm. It now reaches 4.65 m, a format equivalent to that of the old Peugeot 5008. But unlike the latter, here, only five passengers maximum will be accepted on board. This second generation of C5 Aircross also definitely turns the back to the curves of its elder, which had already been well blunted during the restyling of 2022. This time, the features are much more angular, even a little martial … A fortiori in this dark gray dress. Even the wheel arches seem cut to the serpe, like those of a Toyota Rav4.

An unprecedented electric motorization for the C5 Aircross

Made in Rennes, this second version is based on the Stla Medium platform of the Stellantis group, already used by the Peugeot 3008 and 5008, the Opel Grandland or the DS number 8. It will therefore be available in 100 % electric. This is the case of the copy here photographed, as shown in the small ëc5 logo affixed to the tailgate. When launching, the choice of this type of engine will allow you to take advantage of 210 hp, with a 73 kWh battery. But declination 1.2 hybrid of 145 hp, more affordable, should represent the majority of sales. On the other hand, if it is the diesel that interests you, you will have to set your sights on one of the many old generation C5 Aircross still available in stock. You will be able to benefit from the passage of a few other advantages that have lost themselves on the way, starting with the individual and sliding MONOSPACE style seats.
