The new ThinkPad T14S 2-in-1 Convertible from Lenovo suffers from the 60 Hz screen

We congratulated Lenovo for the quality of the display of its laptops several times this year, especially for consumer and game laptops, but also recently in the case of the ThinkPad E14 G7. The latter is optionally equipped with a high resolution 2.8K IPS screen at 120 Hz. We were therefore quite surprised to note that the new professional convertible Thinkpad T14S 2-in-1 is limited to a Full-HD screen with a refresh frequency of 60 Hz, and that the T14S is much more expensive than the E14.

The device we have examined was already equipped with the 500 Nm optional screen, which is also a low energy consumption version. This is noted in consumption measurements and also helps battery life in combination with the battery compared to 58 Wh, but we think it is a mistake that you cannot get a better screen. The low refreshment rate of 60 Hz is really a problem, especially if you are already used to screens with higher refresh rates. The brightness of more than 500 nits is not of great help outside, because the surface of the screen is very brilliant.

There is also an optional EPRIVACY screen with an integrated confidentiality filter, but we do not recommend it – just as we do not recommend the Sure View equivalent of HP. The image quality is already affected even when the confidentiality mode is disabled. The two technologies have not really progressed in the past two years. If you really need a privacy screen, we recommend an external solution.

The new ThinkPad T14S 2-in-1 is a good professional convertible thanks to a good set of features and the 500 Nm screen is certainly not an obstacle, but we are simply waiting for the price in 2025, at least as an option. Consult our full test of the new ThinkPad T14S 2-in-1 for more information.
