The OQLF is retreating: the Burgundy Lion ad can keep its brand

The Quebec Office of the French Language (OQLF) will ultimately allow the Burgundy Lion pub, located in the district of the South West in Montreal, to keep its brand.

The owner of the premises had deplored on Wednesday that the OQLF asks him to change his brand by lightening that the word “burgundy” was not French.

The OQLF finally indicated that it was an error of interpretation on the part of its agent.

“In this particular case, there would be no change to make its display after the analysis that was made internally,” says the director of communications of the OQLF, Nicolas Trudel, in an interview with TVA Nouvelles. The provincial body says it regrets the situation.
