The Paris Stock Exchange evolves sharply decreases on Friday, weighed down both by results of companies sanctioned by investors but also the formalization of American surcharge which must come into force in the coming days.

The star index of Place de Paris, CAC 40, was down 1.55%, or 120.83 drops of decline, to be 7,651.14 points, around 10:00 am local time (08:00 GMT). He finished down 1.14% on Thursday.

US President Donald Trump signed the decree setting the amount of new customs duties on Thursday that will affect the products of dozens of countries entering the United States, ranging from 15% to 41%, upsetting the world economic order.

European Union (EU) products will be taxed up to 15% with exemptions for some key sectors.

“Trump’s customs duties will open a new era for world trade next week, and no one can really say how these historic and new barriers” will have as a result in practice, says Jochen Stanzl, market analyst at CMC Markets.

“The US customs rate increased to around 15%, against just over 2% at the start of the year,” said Jim Reid, an economist at Deutsche Bank. “This is its highest level since the 1930s.”

Investors also digest a new salvo of business results.

The disparities are strong in the first half for the companies of the CAC 40, which generally saw their net profits fall backwards, according to a statement made on Friday by AFP.

The world giant of Teleperformance call centers plunged more than 17% on Friday on the Paris Stock Exchange, the day after the publication of its results of the first half of a clear drop in its profit.

The action of the group registered in tweaking from 16.10% to 71.92 euros around 10:00 am in Paris.

Axa in pain

The AXA insurer fell by more than 6% on Friday in the first exchanges of the Paris Stock Exchange after reporting net profit in 2% in the first half, despite a turnover up 7%.

The title still lost 5.30% around 10:00 am to 40.42 euros.

Engie in the red

The action of the energy group Engie ceded 3.39% to 18.96 euros around 10:00 am on the Paris Stock Exchange, resuming a little after having dropped more than 5% at the opening.

In the first half of 2025, the group gave a recurring net profit with 19% to 3.1 billion euros. Engie “approaches the coming months with confidence,” said his director general Catherine Macgregor, who insisted on an economic and geopolitical context “quite uncertain and moving”.
