The elder branches of the Scouts and Guides of France, the pioneers and the caravels (14-17 years) and the companions (17-21 years) met to the west of Paris for five days halfway through their journey of two years of reflection on the way of experimenting, sharing and anchor new ways of living scouting in the light of the COP 21 of Paris and the encyclical of Pope Francis Laudato. “Let us hear our clamor” they proclaim, clamor of the poor and clamor of the earth.
Their approach was welcomed by Léon XIV who sent them a message read during their vigil this Saturday, July 26, before the 20,000 participants. The Pope is delighted with their «belle initiative» who show that these young people want to be “Actors and actresses of change, by putting scouting at the service of climatic issues”. He notes that they want to bring their “Contribution to environmental protection” and strengthen their “Commitment to the service of the common good”.
The necessary internal conversion
The concerns carried by this gathering show how much “Ecological education is essential to reversing the order of things”says the Holy Father. “You are young, you are full of ideas and enthusiasm”he rejoices, “Humility, the spirit of service and a deep relationship with Christ allow you to root Christian values in you. Only domestic conversion makes it possible to change habits and mentalities ”. And scouts and guides can bring a lot to society by their lifestyle, he continues.
Leon XIV therefore encourages these young people to be “The ambassadors of fraternity and peace” in their living environment. “You are linked to adults and the elderly”he said. “It is a wealth, an asset that allows you to see things big and to conceive a pacified world with the weapons of the Christian who are faith, truth, justice, the Gospel of Peace”.
During this rally, several scouts received the sacrament of confirmation. Now consecrated, scouts and guides are “Responsible for testifying your faith in the world, for being agents of change and hope in society”explains Léon XIV who invites these young people to invoke the Holy Spirit to be filled with his gifts and his graces.
