The new female figurehead of American rap Doechii canceled its arrival in Rock en Seine, the festival organizers announced on Tuesday, two days before a highly anticipated concert.
The 27-year-old artist, who is a hit with “Anxiety” and received the Grammy for the best rap album of the year for his third mixtape, “Alligator Bites Never Heal”, was expected as one of the sensations of the festival, which opens Wednesday evening in the national field of Saint-Cloud, near Paris.
“We regret to announce that Doechii will not be able to perform in Rock en Seine this Thursday,” said the festival on its social networks.
The reason has not been specified.
Originally from Florida, Doechii was discreet in France, where she gave only two Parisian concerts: one in March during a gala dinner, the other at the Alhambra in October 2024, in a setting inspired by the marshes, a nod to her natal state and her nickname “Princess of the swamps”.
Jaylah Ji’Mya Hickmon, his real name, first appealed to social networks with her songs like “Anxiety”, resumption of the world famous title “Somebody that i used to know”.
Doubted by her peers like Kendrick Lamar or Tyler, The Creator, she masters the art of incisive words, with a sharp sense of humor, as when she fights her inner alter in “Denial is a river”.
This last minute cancellation is a new blow for Rock en Seine, which attracts some 40,000 spectators per day.
The event, controlled by the giant of musical festivals and shot AEG and the group of Matthieu Pigasse, combat, had already faced the cancellation of his headliner on Thursday: Asap Rocky, disengaged from several big European festivals, was replaced by Kid Cudi, another successful American rapper.
After an opening by the Popstar Chappell Roan, the festival must welcome many artists until Sunday, including Queens of the Stone Age, Justice and Kneecap.
