The Regional Health Agency (ARS) in Pays de la Loire alerted to the resurgence of hepatitis A in the agglomeration of Nantes (Loire-Atlantique). No less than 16 patients have been identified in this sector since June 2025. The phenomenon“Although part of a broader context of increased cases at European level, presents an atypical character with regard to the usual situation in the region” explained the agency in a statement relayed by Nantes news Thursday July 17, 2025.
Actions on several fronts
Transmission channels are being identified. The ARS said followed the confirmed cases but also working on the dissemination of prevention instructions, especially for contact people. As a reminder, hepatitis A is a liver disease whose “The transmission is mainly carried out by oro-fucked, in particular through the consumption of water or soiled foods […] or by direct contact with contaminated objects or hands ” detailed the public establishment.
Nausea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, significant fatigue and even jaundice are part of the symptoms. “It can evolve towards a serious form, especially in some people at risk”explained the ARS, quoted by France 3 Pays de la Loire. Some measures can reduce the risk of contamination: regularly wash from the hands to water and soap, carefully clean food and avoid consuming raw or little seafood. It is also possible to be vaccinated, particularly in the event of a trip to areas where the virus circulates endemically.
