The return of Radio France under the threat of an unlimited strike

This Monday, August 25, was to be the launch day of the season on Radio France. But the start of the school year promises to be agitated. Once again – a previous strike had taken place in June – the unions call for mobilization against reorganization projects maintained by management. A call to an unlimited strike from Monday which should disrupt the broadcasting of programs, including the morning of France Inter. The expected arrival of Benjamin Duhamel on the first morning of the country is tarnished by the social climate: the defector presenter of BFMTV joins Nicolas Demorand, after the departure of Léa Salamé for the 20 hours of France 2.

This call for strike is not a surprise and is part of a calendar already established before the summer break: the strike notice was filed on July 11 by the unions. In play, several reforms wanted by the group’s CEO, Sibyle Veil. Among the files that creak, we can notably cite the cessation of the Mouv’sur la FM radio, editorial changes within here (ex-France Bleu, the network of local public radios) and the cessation of investigation and reporting emissions.

In summer not having made it possible to resolve conflicts, the unions confirmed their call to strike on Thursday: “For the first time in our recent history, the back -to -school radio may not take place”threatened unions in a joint statement. A final meeting with the management of Radio France on Friday did not make it possible to consider the notice of the notice. “For the time being, the management refuses the slightest concession or to return to the most harmful projects for the teams and the antennas”deplored the unions in a statement on Friday evening.

Get out of the impasse

The group’s management for its part assured on Saturday that it has “Make proposals on the various subjects under discussion, with the aim of raising the notice”according to AFP. For its part, management says it is ready to continue negotiations as quickly as possible: “Meeting was jointly set on Monday. There is, on both sides, a desire to get out of the situation as quickly as possible, in the interest of listeners ”she continued.

A very followed first strike had taken place from June 26 to 29. She had immediately been followed by a second, but for a different reason. It was a question of protesting the project of reform of public audiovisual reform carried out by the Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati who plans to create a holding company, France Médias, overseer France Télévisions, Radio France and the INA (National Institute of Audiovisual).

After a parliamentary journey struck, this text should return to the National Assembly in the fall. It was adopted in July by the Senate, where the debates were shortened by the Minister’s choice to employ the blocked vote procedure.

According to the latest mediamétrie audience measures, published in early July, Radio France recorded a 2024-2025 record for several branches and France Inter increased its lead as the first radio station in the country.
