The eldest son of the princess of Norway Mette-Marit, Marius Borg Høiby, was charged for 32 offenses, including four rapes. He risks ten years in prison, the Norway prosecutor-general announced on Monday.

(Keystone-ATS) In addition to the four rapes, Marius Borg Høiby is charged with mistreatment in close relations, acts of violence, affected by freedom and having filmed and recorded video without consent, explained the prosecutor-general Sturla Henriksbø, at a press conference.

“The maximum sentence for the offenses mentioned in the indictment is a prison sentence of up to ten years,” he said. “These are very serious acts that can leave lasting traces and destroy lives,” said the prosecutor.

Not above laws

Born from a relationship prior to the marriage of his mother Mette-Marit with Crown Prince Haakon, Marius Borg Høiby had been arrested on August 4, 2024, suspected of having attacked his partner. These facts sparked a series of other revelations and complaints by several victims.

“The fact that Marius Borg Høiby is part of the royal family must of course do not lead that it is treated more slowly or more severely than if similar acts had been committed by others,” insisted Mr. Henriksbø.

The four rapes for which Mr. Borg Høiby is charged took place in 2018, in 2023 and 2024, the last after the start of the police investigation.
