The supreme guide says Israel sought to “overthrow” the Islamic Republic by war

The war between Israel, with the support of the United States, and Iran aimed to “overthrow” the Islamic Republic, said Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, this Wednesday, July 16. This conflict lasted 12 days and resulted in a ceasefire.

The supreme Iranian guide, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said that the 12-day war launched in June by Israel with the support of the United States was aimed at “overthrowing” the Islamic Republic this Wednesday, July 16.

“The calculation and the plan of the attackers consisted in weakening the system by targeting certain personalities and sensitive centers in Iran,” said the Iranian leader, in reference to the assassination of high officers and strikes against official buildings.

“Turn the system”

The purpose of this strategy was “to trigger troubles and push the population to descend into the street, in order to overthrow the system,” said Ali Khamenei, according to remarks reported by his official website during a meeting in Tehran with leaders of the judiciary.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the last decision -maker in Iran and chief of the armed forces, has been at the head of the country since 1989. Israel launched on June 13 a surprise attack on Iran and led hundreds of strikes on military, nuclear sites, as well as official buildings and killed scientists linked to the Iranian nuclear program, perceived as an existential threat.

Asked on June 15 by the American channel Fox News, the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, had not dismissed the hypothesis of a change of diet in Tehran. “It could certainly be the result because the Iranian regime is very low,” he said about Israeli strikes against Iran.

A ceasefire after 12 days of war

The United States, allies of Israel, bombed on June 22, the underground site for the enrichment of Fordo uranium, south of Tehran, and nuclear installations in Ispahan and Natanz (center). The precise extent of the damage is not known.

Iran retaliated with missile and drone shots on Israel and the most important American base in the Middle East in Qatar. Ali Khamenei assured that “even stronger strikes could be imposed in the United States and other countries”, in the event of resumption of hostilities.

At the end of 12 days of war, a cease-fire entered into force on June 24 between Iran and Israel, a sworn enemies since the Islamic Revolution of 1979 which overthrew the monarchy in Tehran.

More than a thousand people were killed in Iran during the conflict, according to Iranian authorities. Israel said 28 dead. The Israeli attack occurred while Tehran and Washington have been negotiating since April on Iranian nuclear. The talks have since interrupted.
