The UN Special Rapporteur on the minorities, the Friborg Nicolas Levrat, and more than 30 of his independent expert colleagues require the dismantling of the controversial humanitarian foundation of Gaza (GHF). On Tuesday in Geneva, they spoke of an “urgent need for robust international surveillance”.
In a joint declaration, independent experts, who do not express themselves on behalf of the UN, denounce in GHF, supported by Israel and the United States, a “completely disturbing” exploitation of aid for military and political reasons. They target normalization of impunity and violations of international law.
“In this case, we leave a state accused of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity being in charge of feeding the population affected by the genocide,” they add. More than 1,300 people were killed and more than 4,000 injured by coming to seek food since resuming the control of humanitarian aid by the Hebrew state.
860 people killed near GHF sites
Among them, nearly 860 were nearly the few sites piloted by the GHF for a little more than two months. The Foundation claims that its distributions operate and claims nearly 1.8 million meals distributed for the only day on Monday, regularly calling on the UN to collaborate with it.
But humanitarian organizations reject this scenario, accusing the entity of not following the humanitarian principles. “The credibility and efficiency of humanitarian assistance must be restored by dismantling GHF”, insist UN experts. The responsibilities of the representatives of this must be established, they add.
