Switzerland surprises CNN: “Rivers so clean that people will work while swimming”
The American channel CNN reports that some Swiss go to work at work, which triggers a heated debate on Reddit: does that really exist?
In a report for CNN, we discover a Swiss habit that fascinates abroad: some people would use rivers to go to work … swimming. The American chain speaks of “so clean rivers that the Swiss can plunge in the city” and even quotes Alex Herrmann, from Switzerland Tourism, which says that it often surprises foreign tourists.
“Some people exchange their car for a swimsuit,” summarizes the voiceover of the video. CNN notably evokes the city of Bern, which has set up entry and exit points into the AAR in the manner of real aquatic bus stops. Local authorities would even provide online safety instructions there. To transport their business, swimmers use waterproof bags containing their laptop.
Reddit ignites: reality or exaggeration?
This unusual report was quick to react on Reddit. A user protests: “No one in Switzerland will really work by swimming in a river!” He describes the subject of “sensationalist journalism”, nourished by viral videos from their context.
But other Internet users defend the veracity of the phenomenon. One of them writes: “In Basel, people do that. I worked with several colleagues who floated in the morning on the Rhine to go to the office. ” Another confirms: “These are not fake news. I did it every day for two weeks this summer, until the weather turns. ”
Between local folklore and refreshing reality
Even if it is not a generalized mode of transport, several users underline that the report is not misleading: CNN talks above all about an original summer practice, closer to leisure than real daily transport. “In Bern, it’s not commonplace, but some really do it,” concludes a comment.
If the image of white collars deriving in a river to avoid traffic jams can lend to smile, it is not completely fanciful. In a country renowned for the quality of its water and its logistical rigor, even the absurd seems well organized. And that does not escape foreign media, always curious about these Swiss little miracles where nature and the city coexist in an astonishing harmony.
