After making your income declaration, the taxman tells you that you were too much deducted last year. So you are going to be reimbursed this summer. But what dates? And are there any steps to take? Here is everything you need to know.
In the middle of summer, it is a news that will do you good for morale. Millions of you will, in fact, receive a tax transfer in just a few days.
After carrying out your income tax return in the spring, you had to read your “report reporting income tax” (ASDIR).
This can indicate three scenarios: you have nothing to pay, you have a dependent rest or you were too much taken last year.
In the latter case, you will benefit from a refund from the Directorate General of Public Finances (DGFIP).
What will be the payment dates? Are there any steps to take? RMC Conso gives you the point.
July 25 or August 1
The reasons explaining why the taxman must reimburse you are multiple: the arrival of a child, a marriage, a decrease in income and a non-adaptation of the rate or on the contrary an increase in income and an overvaluation of the rate or even tax credits.
If these events were declared too late, they could not be taken into account in time by the tax administration and lead to too much perceived.
You won’t have to wait too long. The tax reimbursements will be made on two specific dates: Friday, July 25 or Friday August 1, is indicated on the Service-Public.fr website.
A double deadline put in place in order to better manage the flow. Indeed, between 10 to 16 million households receive a refund each year.
And the sums at stake are important. Last year, the households concerned received an average of 908 euros.
The dates also coincide with the online imposition notices. These documents will arrive in your particular space between these two dates. If you continue to receive a paper opinion, it will arrive between July 24 and August 28, 2025.
An automatic refund
To receive your refund, you have no procedures to carry out. It’s automatic.
The transfer will be made directly on the bank account that you have communicated to the DGFIP. He will carry the wording “Revenue Revenue Reader” and will come from “DGFIP Public Finances”.
If your bank details are not known to the tax administration and you have not updated them before the end of June, a check will be sent to you by mail to your home.
And in the event of a dependent rest?
Conversely, in the event of a tax balance remaining to be paid, a single levy will be taken on September 25, 2025, if the amount to be reimbursed is less than 300 euros.
If the sum is greater than 300 euros, the payment will be spread in four times: September 25, October 27, November 27 and December 29, 2025.
The balance will be taken from the bank account that you have communicated to the DGFIP. You have until September 14 inclusive to update your bank details.
Last year 9.8 million French people had to pay a remainder to pay an average of 2,127 euros.
Whether for a refund or for a tax levy, you can go to your particular space on taxes.gouv.fr in the “Documents” tab to find out the exact amount.
