The town of Boussu distributes hens to help citizens reduce their waste … and brighten up their garden

The Summer Festival started in style this Thursday and promises an enticing sequel

But beware: there is no question of distributing chickens like promotional gadgets. For the sake of animal welfare, the town imposes some rules. In particular, it must be proven that we have the necessary space and arrangements and provide an enclosure safe from predators. The beneficiaries also undertake to properly feed the poultry, even in the event of absence, and to keep them at least two years before. During this period, they can neither be sold, sold, nor … finish in broth.

Note also that in the event of a leak, theft or death, the municipality must be warned. It also reserves the right to end the operation if the conditions are not met.

Beyond the eggs, adopting two chickens, it is a little green gesture that quickly becomes a daily pleasure. To see them pecking, arguing an earthworm or rolling in the dust is to reconnect with a simple rhythm, far from all disposable. And then, let’s face it: nothing beats a fresh egg laid in the morning, still warm, for breakfast.

Applications are open until August 24 to the inhabitants registered in the municipal register. All practical information as well as the regulations are available on the municipality’s website.
