Civil service should not be dismantled, say young green-exps. The party is launching a referendum against the current reform, wanted by the Federal Council and supported to the National Council. They also request the abolition of compulsory service.
The government wants to lower the number of people who leave the army for civil service. A third of civilists enter this category. A series of measures proposed by the Federal Council must pass the number of annual admissions to the civil service from 6,600 to 4000.

The right majority of the National Council supported these measures, against the opinion of the left and the Vert’liberals in June. At the time of the national debates, the party of young environmentalists as well as the Swiss Federation for the Civil Service had already brandished the threat of the referendum.
“Although the army enrollments are already greater than what the law authorizes, the Parliament wants to massively weaken civil service. Six measures must make civil service less attractive and make the passage of the army to the civil service more difficult,” criticize young green-exs in a press release published on Monday, already announcing the launch of a referendum, while the Council of States is still to decide this fall.

A voluntary social service
The young Green-Exs also request the abolition of the compulsory service. “Compulsory military service leads to a forced militarization of society and any form of obligation to serve is a massive attack on the personal freedom of individuals,” said Sheldon Masseraz, co -president of the party, quoted in a position.
Instead, the party wants a voluntary social service. The latter, which would be carried out in “areas of systemic importance”, must be opened to any person residing in Switzerland from the age of 15 years and being remunerated at least 120 francs per day of service, ask young green-exs.
He must also recognize voluntary commitment and work -related work, while being flexible in its duration and in its occupancy rate.
