A few days ago, she went to an ophthalmology cabinet located on the Vaud coast, in Switzerland. “I was coming for the first time in this cabinet for a simple view of the view. And given the age of my baby, I took him with me as a stroller. However, I was extremely badly received. »»
“I left very upset”
The young mother explains that the practitioner first saw her arriving with the stroller, reminding her that she was not allowed. However, she agreed to receive it, provided that the infant remains on her lap.

But at the time of the consultation, the baby started to cry. The mother then proposed to breastfeed her or let him cry during the exam, which was to last only a few minutes. A proposal that the ophthalmologist refused, asking her to make a new appointment when she would have a day care solution: “I left very upset”blows the patient.
Questioned by our colleagues, the doctor regrets these accusations: “The indications mentioned on the poster are not a general ban, but an organizational measure to optimize everyone’s comfort in the waiting room. »» She says herself “Deeply affected by these unfounded accusations”. She also specifies that strollers can be placed at the reception, “Where parents have an appropriate waiting space”. Likewise, people in wheelchairs can wait for their care next to the reception.
“Shocking and devaluing”
Pro infirmity, an organization that defends the interests of people with disabilities, says it is shocked: “Such a poster is shocking and devaluing with regard to people in a rolling chair. »»
Its spokesperson recalls that the equality law for people with disabilities “Prohibited to individuals who provide services to the public to treat a disabled person in a discriminatory manner, because of their disability”.
