I have always been a fan of portable external screens. In recent years, they have grown enormously in brightness, consumption and viewing angles. Practices to work on the move with a 13 inch MacBook. But there, will have pushed the concept to the extreme with not one, but three 15.6 inch screens that unfold around your laptop.

The triple aero 15.6 Pro Max promises to triple your workspace and transform any laptop into a multi-screen workstation. On paper, it’s a dream. In fact, after a week of testing, reality is more nuanced.

Technical sheet

Each screen displays Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) on an IPS 15.6 -inch panel. Brightness is announced at 350 Nits with HDR support and 100 % SRGB coverage. Correct for office automation, limit for demanding graphic creation. The cooling rate remains blocked at 60 Hz, forget gaming or fluid animations.

Connectors placed on versatility: two USB-C ports (one for the power supply, one for data) and three mini-HDMI. What connect several sources simultaneously. The 65 W external power supply remains compulsory – these three 15.6 -inch screens cannot be satisfied with the only power of the laptop. However, and fortunately, an area adapter is provided.

On the audio side, two 2 W speakers make the minimum union for Visio calls. Do not expect to listen to music on it. The folded dimensions of 420 x 360 x 30 mm and the 3.2 kg on the scale remind you that we are not in the ultra-portable. It’s heavier than a 16 -inch MacBook Pro, it gives an idea.

Design and ergonomics

All aluminum construction is good. The finish Spatial Grey Who goes perfectly with MacBook, rigid chassis, firm hinges: we feel the product well thought out.

Aura has treated the details with an adjustable integrated foot in height to adapt to the different laptop thicknesses.

The folding system remains the central element. The three screens are deployed around your laptop to create this famous 43 inch panoramic view (in cumulative width, not diagonally). Mechanics work well even if it all lacks fluidity. You have to go frankly to unfold and fold the whole.

Big downside of the design: one of the three screens remains exposed to the outside once the system folded. Total aberration which unnecessarily exposes the slab to scratches and shocks. Why not have made the three screens to fall against the face? Mystery. This neglect of design annoys.

Performances: Too bad

The installation requires a few minutes. Driver to download and install, then configuration in macOS or Windows display preferences. Nothing rocket science, but we would like plug-and-play on a consumer product. Once configured, the three screens light up and behave like conventional monitors.

Productivity jumped immediately. No more perpetual dance between applications on a single screen. Mail on the left screen, main document on the mac screen, references and pallets on the right screen: the workflow becomes natural. For intensive office automation, it’s day and night.

The Full HD definition is correct without excelling. On these 15.6 inches, the definition remains comfortable to read text and consult Excel tables. But we regret the absence of 2K, especially when we are used to the Retina screens of MacBook. The difference in sharpness is seen, even if it remains usable.

The 350 nits of brightness are enough inside, I measured barely 260 nits, so forget in sunny outdoors. No problem in an office or a coffee, more complicated on the terrace in good weather. The anti -reflector does its job without a miracle. The IPS vision angles are not crazy on the other hand, as you can see.

As soon as we deviate from perpendicular, the colors tarnish and the contrast falls. Not dramatic, but disappointing.

The colors seem bland. For professional photo retouching, it lacks precision and extended gamut, but 90 % of users will accommodate it.

But I discovered some annoying faults for use. The rendering of the characters lacks sharpness, with an effect of blur or pixeelization visible on the texts, especially the small fonts. The letters drooled slightly, as if the Full HD definition was poorly exploited. On Discord or web interfaces, it is particularly visible and tiring for the eyes.

The “triangle” mode where the three screens fall back to form a 360 ° cockpit is the good idea of the product. In a meeting, instead that everyone crowds around your screen, you fold the monitors and everyone has their sight. Great for collaborative presentations.

This triangular configuration also works for personal use. When I want to monitor several information flows – emails, social networks, chatbot – having three differently oriented screens helps compartmentalize visually. More immersive than a classic linear setup.

The 60 Hz bridled kills in the all -hunge gaming egg. Even for casual games, this refreshment rate is dated. System animations lack fluidity, slightly jerk scrolling. For video, it goes, but we feel the limits as soon as it takes responsiveness. It is bandwidth and energy consumption, we cannot make magic with three simultaneous screens.

The external supply obligation weighs on portability. 65W is reasonable, but it involves an additional cable and adapter. Possible to connect to a strong external battery, but it complicates the mobile setup. Autonomy becomes a real subject with three screens to power.

Integrated speakers do their job for Teams or Zoom calls. Correct audio for voice, limits for music. The volume grows enough for a quiet room. Practical to have integrated sound, even basic, rather than getting the headphones out each time.

Mechanical stability impresses once deployed. Despite the 3.2 kg and the lever effect of the extended screens, the whole does not move a bit. The adjustable foot well compensates for the different heights of laptop. No parasitic vibrations when you type on the keyboard.

Multiple connectors (USB-C + Mini-HDMI) allow you to mix the sources. Main laptop in USB-C, HDMI game console, USB-C smartphone on the second port. Useful to compare content or monitor several devices simultaneously.

The change of sources is done via the buttons under the central screen … be careful not to multiply the cables too much. It is quickly the brothel with several HDMI cables.

Price and availability

Will have positioned the triple aero at 600 euros, often on sale at 520 euros. For three 15.6 inch screens with aluminum construction, it is rather competitive.

Availability is limited to the official website will have displayed for the moment. No distribution in supermarkets or classic tech resellers yet.
