Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, pulls a salvo on X about the refusal of the WSJ of “Print” the denial concerning rumors of Fortnite X Disney

The CEO of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney, reacted to a recent report from the Wall Street Journal, which claims that the next Disney project of Fortnitewhose code name is “Project Bulldog”, has been marred by delays due to the slowness of the decision -making process at Disney.

The article of the Wall Street Journal, published on August 3, 2025, indicated that anonymous sources claimed that the expansive collaboration of Disney with Fortnite had been postponed to 2026 due to “the slowness of the decision -making process at Disney, with necessary approvals from so many divisions.”

Sweeney hastened to go to X on August 4 and replied to the WSJ by declaring:

“The anonymous quotation is false. The speed of collaborations between Disney and Epic, like Dark Vader, has been impressive and is about 10 times higher than the usual speed of transactions between media companies in this sector. We even provided a declaration to the author of this article, but they chose not to print it.”

Fortnite X Disney or Project Bulldog was announced in February 2024 as a collaboration project between Epic Games and Disney, supported by the investment of $ 1.5 billion Disney in Epic. Fortnite will introduce a Disneyland-Esque mode. The scale of the project and what is expected in the content to come is not yet clear.

The project is led by Josh d’Amaro, president of Disney Parks and Resorts, and should be launched in the fall of 2026, which Sweeney did not denote in his declaration to X. According to previous collaboration projects, such as those carried out with Square Enix on Kingdom Hearts, Disney indeed protects the representation of its characters and its intellectual properties.

In addition, Disney has a practical approach to the project, since D’Amaro would have visited the headquarters of Epic in North Carolina a month ago.

However, Sweeney’s declaration has weight in this context, given the impressive number of skins, emotes and objects from Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar franchises that were transferred to Fortnite.

For example, the Four Fantastic: First Steps Premiere, on July 25, 2025, was followed the same day by the launch by Epic by Reed Richards, Susan Storm, Johnny Storm, the thing and derivative objects such as a glider, blings in the back and emotes.

Fortnite is by far one of the most active royal battle platforms of the moment, with a peak of 1,598,655 simultaneous players in 24 hours and a historic peak of 14,343,880 users on all platforms when writing this article.
