Today in Switzerland – Swi Swissinfo.ch

Switzerland should not make concessions in the United States After the tax by Washington of customs duties of 39% on Swiss exports across the Atlantic. This is in any case the opinion of almost two thirds of the population, according to a survey carried out by Yougov.

Only a quarter of the population shares what so far seems to be the path chosen by the Federal Councilnamely to continue the negotiations to try to satisfy, at least in part, the American president Donald Trump and lead him to revise the customs prices downwards.

Among the different ideas mentioned on how to act, one of them, mentioned this morning by the Daily Anzeigerconsist to Transit the purchase of American Boeing aircraft by the German company Lufthansa via Switzerland. This would reduce the American trade deficit towards Switzerland, an imbalance particularly frowned upon by the tenant of the White House.

Half of those questioned by Yougov estimates that the Confederation should bet more on local productioneven at the cost of a generalized price increase. In addition, 41% believe that Swiss companies should not make significant investments in the United States, while 14% are of the opposite.

More than half of the sympathizers of almost all political parties say they are favorable to reinforced cooperation with the European Union. A notable exception: people close to the Democratic Union of the Center (UDC, conservative right), traditionally Eurosceptic, which firmly oppose this option.
