Trade brand | Utah’s mammoth pursues a manufacturer of hockey bags

(Salt Lake City) The owners of the NHL Utah mammoth brought a pursuit against a manufacturer of hockey bags for a trademark issue.

The prosecution, filed in the Utah district court, suggests that Mammoth and that Mammoth Hockey LLC are at a dead end in their arguments.

“Mammoth and NHL firmly believe that they can use Utah’s name Mammoth according to American federal laws and Utah state without prejudice to the defendant,” said Smith Entertainment Group by press release.

The Mammoth unveiled its new name and logo in May, after its first season in Utah. The team played under the name of Utah hockey club in 2024-25, after being moved from Arizona to Salt Lake City.

Based in Oregon, Mammoth Hockey filed a formal notice shortly after the name of the franchise was unveiled. The company claims that supporters could confuse the two appellations and that the other teams would not buy its products. The team and the manufacturer both have a logo representing a mammoth and are associated with the words “mammoth” and “hockey” according to the formal notice.

Mammoth Hockey was launched in 2014 and manufactures equipment bags for hockey players.

The company “intends to defend vigorously” its trademark, said its co -founder Erik Olson in a statement sent to Deeret News.
