Trade war | Dominic Leblanc is expecting a carney-top discussion soon

(Ottawa) Minister responsible for Commerce Canada-United States, Dominic Leblanc, expects Prime Minister Mark Carney and US President Donald Trump to have “in the coming days”, while the United States is increasing pressure in trade negotiations.

Mr. Leblanc was on Sunday on the show on Sunday Face the Nationon the waves of CBS, and spoke of the progress of the negotiations between the two countries.

The Minister told host Margaret Brennan that Canada is “disappointed” by new 35 % customs duties imposed by President Trump, he continues to work on an agreement that would eliminate trade restrictions between the two countries.

Mr. Leblanc was in Washington last week to try to find common ground with the Trump administration before Friday’s deadline in order to conclude a new agreement between the business partners.

While Mexico has been given a period of 90 days for the application of new customs duties, Trump imposed customs duties of 35 % on Friday on all products not in accordance with the Canada-United States Agreement.

Canada also continues to be confronted with American customs duties on steel, aluminum and cars, as well as new 50 % customs duties imposed by Mr. Trump on semi-finished copper products.
