Trade war: drastic fall in imports of American orange juice in Canada

Months after the start of the trade war with the United States. Moreover, Canadian consumers are massively continuing to turn their back on the American orange juice, whose exports to Canada have dropped to their lowest level in more than twenty years.

American orange juice quickly established itself as one of the most obvious targets of Canadian consumers. frustrated by the Price War of US President Donald Trump.

As soon as the first prices were announced in February. ex-Prudeau Minister Trudeau called on the Canadians to do their part, explicitly encouraging them to sulk the orange juice from Florida.

Shortly after. the federal government published its first list trade war: drastic fall imports of products which would be struck by counter-triggers of 25%, and orange juice was part of it.

Data from the US census office is a sign that the Canadian response is working. but it is difficult to say if it is due to the customs duties imposed by Canada, which have increased the price of American orange juice to the grocery store, or the individual choices of consumers.

In July, the price of fresh fruit in Canada increased by 3.9% from one year to the next. according to the most recent data from Statistics Canada, which unfortunately does not publish data on the different types of juices in its reports.

At the grocery store. however, consumers have noticed that the price of American orange juice jugs jumped in the last months, sometimes up to more than $ 13 for a container of 2.63 liters.

In parallel, Canada has increased trade war: drastic fall imports its imports of orange juice from other countries, including Mexico and Brazil.

Other American products. such as Californian wine and Kentucky bourbon, have also seen their exports to Canada falling in the last months.
