US President Donald Trump threatened on Tuesday to authorize a “major legal action” against the president of the Federal Reserve (Fed) Jerome Powell. He is unhappy with the decisions of the Central Bank and the cost of renovating his headquarters.

(Keystone-ATS) “I plan to authorize a major legal action against Powell because of the horrible and manifestly incompetent work that he has accomplished in the management” of the Fed renovation site in Washington, “he wrote on Truth Social.

Trump has been putting his growing impatience for the Fed for weeks. He deals with “stupid” Mr. Powell, whom he named at his head during his first mandate, calls on the other central bankers to overthrow him and regularly pretends to want to eject him.

He even split at the end of July of a surprise visit to the renovation site of the institution’s headquarters in Washington, which he deems too expensive. The episode gave rise to a scene widely broadcast in the media: Donald Trump and Jerome Powell side by side, with site helmets.
