Twenty-three months in prison for one of the perpetrators of the facts

Considered as the main instigator of violence, a young man of 21 was sentenced on Wednesday July 30 evening, by the Nanterre Criminal Court (Hauts-de-Seine) to twenty-three months in prison after the assault in July 2024 of the deputy Prisca Thévenot (Renaissance) and members of his team in the middle of the legislative campaign.

This sentence is accompanied by eighteen months of probationary stay and several obligations and prohibitions. The prosecution had requested three years firm. The defendant was prosecuted for recurrence violence, aggravated by the meeting and the use of a weapon, as well as for degradation of vehicle. He appeared in pre -trial detention.

The facts date back to July 3, 2024, during a poster collage operation in Meudon-la-Forêt, a few days before the second round. Prisca Thévenot, then candidate for her re -election, was accompanied by her substitute Virginie Lanlo and two activists. They were then taken to task by several young people, including the defendant, who snatched their posters.

Young people “came to do battle”

The altercation quickly degenerated: around twenty individuals, mostly minors, joined the group at the call of the main accused. At the hearing, the latter admitted to having punched one of the activists, Madiba Ousmane Guirassy, but denied any other violence.

He challenged he was the author of the scooter who broke Mr. Guirassy’s jaw, also injured in the knee, in the belly and by hand. He also denied having attacked with the M scooterme Lanlo, touched by the arm and whose car windshield was damaged during violence.

Five minors deemed later

The defendant’s lawyer, Me Ilyacine Maallaoui, recognized in his argument a “Abyssal idiocy” of his client, while rejecting the slightest political motivation. The court stressed in its judgment that the victims “Worked on the smooth running of democracy.” The lawyer for civil parties, Me Arthur Gaulier, for his part regretted a “Taste of unfinished”pointing the absence of “Sincere confrontation”despite the excuses formulated by the accused.

Five other minors suspected of having participated in the assault will be tried later before the children’s court. According to the Ministry of the Interior, fifty -one candidates, alternates or militants were attacked between the two rounds of the 2024 legislative elections.
