Two deaths in the aircraft crash in Saint-Pons in the Ubaye valley

It is a dramatic accident that occurred in the Ubaye valley. This Saturday, August 16, 2025, around 1 p.m., two aircraft crashed in the town of Saint-Pons, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.

An airplane started his takeoff, with him a glider he was towing. For a reason still unknown, the plane crashed at the end of the track, the glider also crashed after it a hundred meters further, in the woods.

Inside each device was a septuagenarian. These two foreign nationals lost their lives. The plane was on fire when the firefighters arrived from the departmental fire and rescue service of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence (SDIS04).

The gendarmes mobilized

Under the coordination of the Operational Center of Digne-les-Bains, the gendarmerie forces logically mobilized substantial resources, in particular the Barcelonnette company, faced with the situation.

Investigators from the BGTA research section of Roissy, gendarmerie brigade dedicated to airport areas, were engaged as well as investigators from the Marseille Air Transport Research Section (SRTA), to try to understand the scenario of this double crash.

The survey is logically coordinated by the SRTA which provides the link between the various services and works in partnership with the Office of Investigation and Analysis (BEA).
