Vaud: Because of the wolves, Vassilis Venizelos threatened with death
The Vaud State Councilor filed a complaint against a breeder, who exceeded the limits.
Vassilis Venizelos defends a more thoughtful approach to cohabitation with wolves.
Odile Meylan/24 HoursThe management of the wolf in Vaudoise is experiencing a new episode under tension bottom with the breeders. Sunday evening on the RTS, in the program “Development”, the Vaud State Councilor Vassilis Venizelos, in charge of this thorny file, revealed that he had to resolve to deposit Plaine against a breeder who uttered death threats to him: “A red line was clearly crossed. A complaint has been filed ”.
“Obviously,” he added, “I can understand this anger, understand that some breeders expect a more determined action of the state. But certain limits should not be crossed ”.
In July, 18 pension animals were victims of the predator. The Romande association for the regulation of large predators (Arrgp) requests that the state of Vaud be more reactive to its attacks and take more drastic measures, especially against the Mail of Montrendre, which poses recurring problems.
“Not a shooting stand …”
Vassilis Venizelos, however, pleads for a more thoughtful policy: “I did not engage in politics to kill wolves,” he said to our colleague “24 hours” last February. But I take my responsibilities and I repeat that we need more pragmatic, more nuanced solutions: the Jura is not a shooting stand. We need humility, we must accept that we work with the living: at Montrendre, the pack has recomposed by accepting wolves from elsewhere, that is reality ”.
