In short:
  • The town of Vernier transforms the Dragonlles district with 155 new dwellings.
  • The main roads will be limited to 30 km/h to improve the urban environment.
  • Avenue de l’Ain will host a central mound for future tram potential.

The DRILLULULES districtin Vernier, is embedded between several high traffic roads. An island of homes in the midst of very frequented tracks, which so far did not make you want to settle there. But that may change in the coming years.

A new district, Actaris, was built a few tens of meters; The first inhabitants will settle there in early September. With the implementation of 155 new housing units, the town took the problem of traffic in arms. Ultimately, it intends to make Concorde (where the future cultural center is located), dragonflies and Actaris only one and the same urban continuum.

Create a place of life between the districts of the dragonflies and Actaris

For this, the authorized speed will be reduced on several roads. Between the districts of Actaris and the dragonflies, the Chemin du Château-Bloch and the factory-to-Gaz route will be limited to 30 km/h. The Henri-de-Buren path, it will become a meeting area, with a maximum speed of 20 km/h.

“Before the arrival of Actaris, this area was an industrial wasteland,” explains Mathias Buschbeck, administrative advisor in charge of development. Now it is a place of life stuck in the neighboring district. The inhabitants must be allowed to feel good there, and this implies moderating traffic. ”

Will companies remain on the site not suffer? “We do not prevent them from accessing them, they are simply asked to slow down to a place where people live now,” replies the green magistrate.

The will of the Verniolan Administrative Council goes even further. “We want to mend this territory, which so far consisted of isolated urban areas. With the cycle path, it will be possible to get from the Délices district to the Lignon by bicycle on its own site. It is a dynamic to keep. The avenue de l’Ain’s sub-revision is being widening, ”explains Mathias Buschbeck.

Objective? Allow a pedestrian continuum between the Lignon, Gordon-Bennett, the dragonflies and Châtelaine, to “create urban seam”. In other words, transform these complexes into a piece of city.

And the advantages of these developments are multiple. Because so far, this area suffered from marked isolation. “There is no supermarket at the dragonflies, illustrates the administrative advisor. Too often, residents are forced to take the car to shop. With these new pedestrian links, they will be able to go to shops under construction just opposite, Concorde. ”

Protect Vernier schoolchildren

The reclassification of the Ain avenue is also in progress. A central mound will be created, perhaps opening the way to a tangential tram, if the canton judges it useful. “It would be really beneficial,” notes Mathias Buschbeck. But we have already been disappointed when the 30 km/h of night on this avenue was canceled, so I remain cautious. ”

Finally, the security for students going to the school of the dragonflies has been reinforced, because the children in the Actaris district will be enrolled there: the sidewalks will be widened and the pedestrian crossing in front of the school will be improved.
