The Lanaudière Integrated Health and Social Services (CISSS) (CISSS) invites the importance of continuing to protect themselves from mosquito bites to the first frost.
The CISSS takes the opportunity to recall that mosquito bites can transmit certain infections, such as the Western Nile virus (VNO).
“People 50 and over, those with chronic diseases, such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, and those whose immune system is weakened are more at risk of developing serious forms [du VNO]such as meningitis (infection of the brain envelope) or encephalitis (brain inflammation) if they are bitten by an infected mosquito, “said the CISSS by press release.
Here are some things to protect yourself from mosquitoes during the summer:
- Apply a mosquito hunting based on Deet or Icaridine to the exposed skin;
- Wear long and light color clothes;
- Install mosquito nets (doors, windows, tents, shelters);
- Cover the strollers and children’s parks with mosquito nets;
- Eliminate standing water around your home (pots, gutters, stored tires, etc.).
