Who will be summoned for the start of the Blues? Didier Deschamps will raise the mystery in just under two weeks. As announced by the French Football Federation, the national coach will unveil on Wednesday August 27 at 2 p.m. the list of players selected to play the next meetings of the French team.
Players called will start their short qualification campaign for the 2026 World Cup, scheduled for next summer in the United States, Canada and Mexico (from June 11 to July 19). Vice-world vice-champions will start with a match against Ukraine on Friday September 5 (8:45 p.m.), at the Wroclaw municipal stadium, in the southwest of Poland. They will welcome Iceland four days later, Tuesday, September 9 (8:45 p.m.), at the Parc des Princes.
Blues assured of being at least barragists
The draw has placed the Blues in group D, which has four teams, with Ukraine, Iceland and Azerbaijan. The first will qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup. The second will compete in the dams to try to obtain a ticket.
After reaching the semi-finals of the last League of Nations (by finishing third in the tournament), the teammates of Kylian Mbappé are already assured of being at least Barragists, even if they finish third or fourth in the pool. But no doubt that the French will try to finish in the lead in order to lock their trip across the Atlantic and thus avoid an always uncertain confrontation.
