Hérault, Gard, Lozère and the Côtes d’Armor were placed on Tuesday in orange vigilance for thunderstorms, rain and floods. Other departments could reach the alert.
After the hot weather, place for thunderstorms. Météo France has placed three orange vigilance departments for risk of violent thunderstorms and rain and flood, this Tuesday, August 19. These are Hérault, Gard and Lozère and Côtes-d’Armor.
The alert will be activated from 4 p.m. until midnight. Up to 120 mm of precipitation could fall in places.
In the west of Brittany, the pluvio-storm episode began in the Côtes d’Armor with 40 mm of precipitation fallen into the south of the department and up to 80 mm estimated with the weather radars.
In three southeast departments, Météo-France has planned a “stormy activity during the day with an active evening passage in the evening and first part of the night”. “The accused rain, expected to be important in a short time,” said the press release, with precipitation of around 60 to 80 mm and up to 120 mm on the relief.
Thunderstorms, accompanied by strong electrical activity, hail and gusts of wind, should start in the early afternoon on the relief and in Lozère, before spreading to the plains at the end of the afternoon. Depending on the evolution of these thunderstorms, departments of the south-eastern quarter and Corsica could also be placed in orange vigilance.
Regarding the heat wave, this 51st heat wave since 1947 ended Tuesday morning after 11 days of overwhelming heat on almost all of the territory.
