Situation
A sustainable heat wave has settled on France, with temperatures often greater than 36 ° C from the southwest to the center-east, and a number of departments passing by increasing heat wave. The heat peak is expected between August 11 and 13, with increased tropical nights. This heat wave recalls the latest, from August 2023, but seems to remain a bit behind that of August 2003 in duration.
This high heat tray should not, however, beat a absolute temperature record, except locally in the Garonne valley, which is why 12 departments in the southwest were put in red level (maximum level).
Overall, this heat wave will last until August 15, or even more in the regions of the center-east and the south, which remains to be determined.
In the meantime, from this Monday, these strong heat waves date back north of the Loire, to Ile-de-France then the northeast on Tuesday. Almost 75% of the country will then go on orange heat wave alert by Monday evening.
Observation
This Sunday afternoon, It is very hot on the departments on alert, especially in the south.
We were in 5 p.m.:
42.8 ° C in Villevieille (30)
42.7 ° C in Argeliers (11)
42.2 ° C in Moulès-et-Baucels (34)
41.8 ° C in Prades Le Lez ((34)
41.7 ° C in Nîmes (30) where Un monthly heat record has been established
41.3 ° C in Céret (66)
40 ° C in Avignon (84)
Evolution
A very hot air bubble is permanently installed in the south of the Loire and is maintained at least until the middle of the week. In the north, the heat remains more moderate, with nights still pleasant, but in the south, between the Garonne and the Rhône to the Val de Saône, the temperatures are particularly high. On Monday, the heat wave focuses mainly on the center-east and the southwest while the heat wave progresses to the center and the east of the country.
In the departments on orange and red alert, the scorching thresholds have day and night for at least three consecutive days. On yellow alert, the days will be very hot, but the nights more breathable, limiting the impact on health. This heat wave should last until August 15, or even more in the center-east and the south of the country.
This night from Sunday to Monday remains hot in the south and the center-east with 18 to 24 ° C of minimum, especially between Bordeaux and Toulouse.
Monday
The heat wave reaches its peak of intensity in the southwest with 43 ° C in the Garonne valley, at the level of absolute records between Bordeaux and Toulouse. This heat wave goes back to the central regions and Paris in the afternoon.
Mardi
The heat wave concerns 3/4 of the country, except the northwest. It is on the East Center and the South West that the heat promises to be the most intense with 38 to 40 ° C of maximum and 36 ° C in Paris.
Subsequent evolution
The very strong heat and the heat wave persist on Wednesday, which will be the hottest day on a national scale (with a national thermal indicator estimated at 28 ° C, as at June 30 and July 1).
The heat leaving the heat wave should start to be implemented from the West on Wednesday, but an east and southern half of the country will keep these very strong heat until after the weekend of August 15.
