What the figures say

A decrease of 27% compared to the same period in 2024, the figures of anti -Semitic acts between January and June remain clearly higher than those recorded before the terrorist attack of Hamas in Israel, on October 7, 2023.

An anti-Semitic wave which is maintained at an unprecedented level but acts in slight decline since the flambé of autumn 2023. In the middle of the controversy created by the mails of the Israeli Prime Minister and the United States ambassador to France, this is the observation that can be made on reading the latest figures from Place Beauvau on the anti-Semitic acts identified in France.

From January to June 2025, 646 anti -Semitic acts were thus perpetrated (99 in January, 98 in February, 96 in March, 88 in April, 126 in May and 139 in June). 891 was deplored during the same period of 2024, a decline of 27%. In addition, the facts observed during the year 2024 were already down 6% compared to 2023.

The fact remains that this arithmetic does not change anything at the tidal wave after October 7, a phenomenon that Paris has never sought to conceal or put into perspective and which extends far beyond France. On August 20, on France Info, the ambassador of Israel to France, Joshua Zarkka, noted “A huge rise in anti -Semitism for the past two years, whether in France or in Europe” Before specifying : “I am not saying that the Republic does nothing. The Republic is enormously [et je n’ai] that good things to say about what the Ministry of the Interior does. ” This job diplomat added: “There are so many acts of anti -Semitism that today it overflows (…). There are certain political actors, in France, who stir up this hatred of the Jews and who, in the most cynical way, instrumentalize the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for political purposes. And there, it’s really very serious ”.

The anti -Semitic explosion is indeed worrying. To stick to France, 436 anti -Semitic acts had been identified in 2022. At the time, the worst assessment was that of 2004, marked by an Israeli intervention in Gaza, with 974 facts. From the first days, Hamas’ terrorist attack on October 7, 2023 exploded these figures. We go from 436 acts in 2022 to 1676 to December 31, 2023 ( +284% over the year but +1050% in the last quarter of 2023). Unheard of since the start of the recordings of anti -Semitic acts in 1992. 1,570 acts have still been identified. An average of some 130 per month.

Increasingly violent acts

Once again, but it is actually a constant since the Palestinian attacks of the past, Jews are targeted in the name of the fight against Israeli state policy. And, as the last report of the National Consultative Human Rights Commission noted, “This increase in anti -Semitic acts has strengthened a feeling of insecurity already very present among the Jews of France”. This is all the more so since 2024 was marked by increasingly violent acts. The Jewish Community Protection Service (SPCJ) has noted 106 physical assaults. And we remember the anti-Semitic rape and aggression of a 12-year-old child, the criminal fire of the Rouen synagogue on May 17 and the Islamist attack on the synagogue of the Grande-Motte on August 24.

Still in 2024, damage to people represented 65.2 % of cases of anti -Semitic acts. In total, 88 departments were affected by this wave. And the SPCJ also alerted to the impact in the school environment (192 of the facts recorded in 2024 or 12.2% of the total).

This assessment is all the more disturbing since we know that part of the anti -Semitic aggressions pass under the radar because not the subject of a complaint or a report. And it is also worrying because the Ministry of the Interior also observes, with global figures which are certainly more modest, an upward trend concerning anti -Christian acts and anti -Muslim acts. For the first, over the period from January to June 2025, there is an increase of 13% compared to the equivalent period of 2024 (401 acts against 354). For anti -Muslim acts, there are 100 facts identified between January and June 2024 to 181 facts from January to June 2025, an increase of 81%.

Reinforced patrols

The fact remains that the anti-Semitic wave launched by October 7 is unparalleled. By the number and violence of attacks. But also by its terrorist dimension, Daesh and Al-Qaida trying to exploit this anti-ugly and anti-Jewish hatred. A threat which, again, concerns all Western countries. Last week, an 18 -year -old suspect, of Chechen origin, was charged in Germany for an attack on the Israel Embassy in Berlin. And the United States had to deplore the anti-Semitic attacks of Washington in May and Boulder (Colorado) in June, both directly linked to the current conflict.

Faced with this wave, the Ministry of the Interior ensures that “All of the prefects were made aware”. “Specific instructions have been transmitted to them for the various religious celebrations (Hannoukka, Pessa’h, Pourim, Tikrit …), following the attack on rabbis or the May 21 attack in Washington, stressing the need to intensify surveillance, in particular by increased patrols around the Jewish community”advance Beauvau.

Police patrols were also reinforced in front of some “Non -confessional businesses such as optical optical center stores or Orpi real estate agencies, following the degradations that occurred as an extension of the altercation between Ms. Rima Hassan and the employees of an Orpi agency in Paris.”

And conclude: “Despite the efforts undertaken, the task is made more difficult on a daily basis because the risk has multiplied and diluted by touching not only places exposed such as schools and synagogues but also commercial establishments (supermarket hyper hide) or even the home of the victims.”
