It is a big fright that a 50 -year -old Californian lived a few weeks ago. In the midst of a sleepwalking crisis, she woke up when she was burning long.

In May 2024, the life of Annemarie, an American woman of 50, switched into a nightmare. Originally from Fremont, California, this mother thought she had already crossed the worst by fighting against alcohol.

But one night, following a sleepwalking crisis triggered by an anxiolytic, She found herself immersed in a boiling water bath.

When she regains consciousness, she is in the hospital, wrapped in bandages from head to toe. “I opened my eyes and I was in a dark room. It was a hospital room. I saw that my body was covered with bandages, my toes around my neck and my arms. It looked like a mummy. I started to shout by asking what was going on… ”she confides in Sun.

She then discovers that she suffers from burns in the third degree on more than half of the body. In the total vagueness, his family even feared a suicide attempt.

“I was confused because of the painkillers (…) My family thought I had tried to commit suicide. I said no! »»

A crisis not to be taken lightly

Little by little, pieces of souvenirs resurface. She remembers taking her medicine, then shuttering cold before, always asleep, going to run a bath.

“Totally under the grip of my more powerful new anxiolytic, I had a sleepwalking crisis and I went to the bathroom. I got a bath to warm up, but I put boiling water and I started. »»

The thermal shock is immediate, extreme pain: “My body was burning and I got out of the bath (…). I was very close to death. » Hospitalized urgently, she undergoes eight interventions, including skin transplants.

Today, she tries to rebuild herself, despite the trauma and the scars. “I look like a bed top in patchwork because of skin transplants”she says.

Thanks to her loved ones and a GoFundme prize pool which exceeded $ 26,000, Annemarie regains a taste for life.

With philosophy, she concludes: “I have three birthdays now: the day of my birth, the day I became sober and now, my burnariat.”
