The national advisor and vice-president of the PLR Andri Silberschmidt decided not to run for the party presidency. In an interview with Tamedia’s German titles, the Zurich said that he was “simply too early” for him.
The presidency of the party is one of the most exciting functions that can be exercised in Switzerland, conceded Andri Silberschmidt in the interview published on Tuesday. However, the thirty -something decided not to claim it.
On the one hand, he has just become a father and he is important for him to accompany his child, and perhaps in the future “his children”, in their growth. On the other hand, he set up a business with a partner, he said.
“But above all, I thought about it: I am 31 years old and in all probability, I will work for many years,” said Zurich national councilor to justify his decision.
Future State Councilor?
Instead of running for the presidency of his party, Andri Silberschmidt plans to present himself to the Zurich Council of State in 2027. But before committing, he wishes to discuss it with the PLR Zurichois: “This could be a fascinating mission that attracts me a lot,” said the vice-president.
So far, first informal interviews have taken place with the president of the Zurich party Filippo Leutenegger. By the end of the year, Andri Silberschmidt would like to have clarified the question of a possible candidacy for the Council of State. “I wanted to clarify the question of the presidency first,” he added.
A favorite withdraws
As a potential successor of Thierry Burkart at the head of the party, Andri Silberschmidt was a favorite. He has been a member of the PLR Swiss PLR Committee for almost ten years and vice-president for four years. The Zurichois sits on the National Council since 2019 and has been president of the young Swiss PLRs.
The period for applications for the succession of Thierry Burkart is set for August 20. So far, no one has announced their candidacy. “The time that several candidates clashed is over for a long time,” said Andri Silberschmidt. In the end, a team will be made available, “someone at the head, assisted by vice-presidents”.
