In 2022, the Free Go association inaugurated his first solidarity fridgeto the charmilles. According to data from WWFfood waste in Switzerland represents 2.8 million tonnes per year, or 330 kg of avoidable waste per person. This corresponds to approximately a quarter of the greenhouse effects linked to food. Faced with this observation. Rémi Merle, secretary general of Eco-Citoyen (association at the origin of the Free Go project), decides in 2022 to fight against this phenomenon and geneva: free-go, geneva solution food launched the first solidarity fridge of Geneva.
Growing precariousness
The success of this beautiful project is the sad indicator of rising precariousness in the canton of Geneva. Indeed. the fridges, which are garnished both with collections of the general hospice and donations from individuals, are often emptied in the hour which follows their filling: “I was very moved by the testimonies of people who used regularly in our fridges, and who admitted that they could not fill their their own”, confides Marine Delévaux.
The latter also claims that “the association enjoys the support of the various town halls in which it is established. which welcome the initiative with open arms and are even many to ask them for additional facilities”. To satisfy this enthusiasm. the association now offers a nomadic free-go, which has already toured geneva: free-go, geneva solution food the canton in May and June this year.
