Answers to everything: will our galaxy strike Andromède?

Will our galaxy strike Andromeda?

Nothing is less certain! According to a new international study conducted by the University of Helsinki, Finland, the famous collision announced for a few billion years between the Milky Way and Andromeda is no longer as certain. By combining data from the Hubble and Gaia telescopes, astronomers have made 100,000 simulations to explore the future of our local galaxy group. Verdict? In half of the cases, the two giant galaxies be avoided! Magellan’s big cloud would even play a role of Savior for the Milky Way, attracting him to him. However, it will be necessary to wait a few billion years – and even more precise measures – to unravel the cosmic mystery of our galactic destiny.

Where does the name of Bluetooth come from?

The next time you connect your wireless headphones, think of … a Viking king! The name Bluetooth comes from Harald to the blue tooth, a Danish king of the Xe Famous century for having unified the Nordic tribes and converted its people to Christianity. This is a perfect inspiration for engineers from Ericsson and Intel, who wanted to symbolize the union of electronic devices. Even the Bluetooth logo is a nod to this king: it combines runes H and B, its initials. Ingenious, right?

Listen to your body: a compass to make the right choices?

According to a recent study published in Journal of Neuroscience, our moral sense would not only be a matter of reflection, but also of listening to the body. People attentive to their physical signals – such as heartbeat – would make moral decisions more in line with social standards. These internal reactions would play a key role in our moral intuition. A fine example of harmony between body and mind in our daily choices.

In short

Sing for babies: a soft and effective remedy

20 000

Researchers have identified more than 150 prehistoric tools made from whale bones, dating from 20,000 years! Discovered between Asturias and Pyrenees, these objects testify to the ingenuity of the first coastal humans, according to a study published in Nature. The bones come from several large species, including blue whale and sperm whale. At the time, these marine giants were abundant and represented a precious food and material resource. This discovery marks the oldest known traces of regular use of whale products.

Get against food waste, even (very) long distance!

In an approach that is both ecological and innovative, Hydro-Québec launches an ambitious project to reduce food waste in its cafeterias in distant environments. In collaboration with the organization La Transformerie and supported by the Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Energy, the initiative will start at the LG-2 complex, in North-du-Québec.

This project aims to demonstrate that it is possible to act concretely, even in complex logistics contexts. Meals will always be of quality, but food loss will be better managed. In addition to lightening the ecological footprint, the program will also assess the economic and operational benefits of such an approach.

Hydro-Québec thus wants to integrate large-scale sustainable practices, by creating transferable tools for other cafeterias. A good proof that food waste is not inevitable, but an issue that can be overcome collectively. With this partnership, the Transformer hopes to inspire other organizations to integrate the fight against waste in their ecological transition.
