“You have to be careful,” said Michael Sabia when studying Hydro’s credits, which took place last May.
Mr. Sabia then answered questions from the solidarity deputy Haroun Bouazzi, who asked him if the multiplication of initiatives like the controversial project of your Canada would undermine Hydro-Québec.
This megaprojet of 140 wind turbines raised the ire of citizens of Mauricie who fear that their corner of the country will be disfigured in addition to arouse concern about the possible privatization of electricity production.
Such projects also raise the challenge of the availability of labor for Hydro.
“During this period when our needs are so important to build the energy system we need for the future, you have to be very disciplined. […] You are an example probably very reasonable. But would it be a good idea to have a dozen others [projets similaires]? ” he questioned himself.

“To say the least, we have question points. Because on the workforce, the availability of entrepreneurs, but also to have access to turbines, because the supply chains are so tight … “he added.
“For a [seul] project, is it the end of the world? Honestly, no, this is not the case. But with a proliferation of many, that’s another thing, “concluded the CEO of Hydro-Québec, who will leave his post next week to take the lead in the Federal Public Service.
Recall that Hydro-Québec’s position on electricity self-production projects is that “resources must be allocated primarily to wind projects that will meet collective interest needs”.
