Murder of Romane Bonnier | Has the alleged killer acted out of jealousy?

François Pelletier, the alleged murderer of Romane Bonnier, persists and signs: the theory of the crown according to which he did not accept the break with the victim is inaccurate, he hammered on the first day of the pleadings of his trial. However, the pursuit argues that the 39 -year -old man acted in anger and jealousy, fearing that the young woman frequent other men.

“I said a lot of things … Even if I didn’t have time to tell you everything,” said François Pelletier immediately on Thursday morning at the Montreal courthouse.

The latter is accused of the premeditated murder of Romane Bonnier, stabbed in broad daylight in a residential district of Montreal. She and the accused had a short relationship when he was his roommate two years ago.

As François Pelletier represents himself alone, proof of defense above all consisted of a long monologue. In his testimony difficult to follow, François Pelletier had described his emotions to the jury, sliding elements of popular culture and passing from rooster to donkey.

His plaid on Thursday morning was hardly different.

He attacked the testimony of a witness witness, the Dr Gilles Chamberland. He accused the psychiatrist of being a “mercenary” in the service of the crown and modeling his testimony to their advantage.

“There are missing pieces in the puzzle,” pleaded Pelletier. He denied at length to have a narcissistic personality disorder as explained by the crown expert in his testimony.

According to him, the crown reduced his story to a simple rupture case by claiming that he killed Romane Bonnier because he did not accept separation.

“It’s much more complex than that,” he said in the jury.

The accused took long breaks and sighed throughout his argument, which was enisized until the mid-afternoon.

Recall that a few weeks ago, he admitted to the jury to have stabbed the young woman more than twenty times.

Judge François Dadour reminded the jurors that they should not take into account the words of the accused who were not part of the proof presented in court, since his pleading was gone at a few moments.

Motivated by anger, pleads the crown

“It is a premeditated act motivated by rejection,” decided the prosecutor Me Marianna Ferraro.

When Romane wanted to put an end to the relationship, François Pelletier mentioned his intention to take up life, recalled the prosecution.

François Pelletier described his relationship with Romane as an intense and consensual love story throughout the trial. Me Ferraro rather told an ambiguous relationship where Romane Bonnier sometimes felt “trapped. »»

The accused idealized the victim and feared that he frequents other men, she told the jury. He was trying to convince her “that she was not this kind of girl,” said the prosecutor.

In the eyes of the crown, François Pelletier intended to kill the victim. The criminal non-responsibility due to mental disorders does not apply to the accused, she pleaded.

“Mr. Pelletier has a“ black and white ”vision of women. The idea that [Romane] Having relationships with other men was unacceptable to his eyes. […] It is his vision of women according to his own moral code. He wanted her for himself alone, ”said Mr.e Ferraro.

The prosecution has portrayed the accused as a narcissistic and jealous person, more sensitive to the rejection than the average of people and motivated by anger. The prosecutor was based, among other things, on the conclusions of the psychiatrist Gilles Chamberland.

The pleadings are now closed. Judge Dadour will give its directives to the jury on Friday morning.
