Turbulence at Air Canada: employees threaten to go on strike | Items

But according to their union, Air Canada does not take these requests seriously. Results: the two parties cannot get along … and the negotiations are dragging.

Press to get an increase

By voting for a strike mandate, on -board agents give their agreement so that the union triggered a strike if it becomes necessary.

The goal? Make their employer understand that if nothing changes, there could be consequences for their customers, such as delays or flight cancellations. It pushes the employer to better listen to what the union asks.

When is the strike?

At the moment, on -board agents are in a period of reflection until August 16. Meanwhile, negotiations continue.

If an agreement is found by then, there will be no strike. Otherwise, employees will have to give a notice of 3 days before starting a strike. So, if a strike takes place, it will not be before August 19 … to follow!

What if you have a planned trip?

Don’t panic! For the moment, no flight is canceled. But if there is a strike, there could be last minute changes.

Air Canada says it will do its best to help passengers if the strike occurs. Travelers could have:

  • Change the date of their flight.
  • Be transferred to another flight or another company.
  • Wait longer at the airport.

Do you think employees should have the right to strike if it prevents people from traveling?
