Elected officials say they are disturbed by an attack on a Jewish father in Montreal

Several personalities of the political scene condemned, on Saturday, the assault suffered Friday by a father of Jewish confession at the Dickie-Moore park in the Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension district in Montreal. The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) specifies, however, that “the reasons surrounding this attack are unknown at the moment” and that it continues its investigation.

Federal Prime Minister Mark Carney denounced this act of violence which he described as odious. In Canada, everyone has the inalienable right to live in safetyhe said on the social network X.

My thoughts accompany the victim and his family, who recover from this ordeal, and I support the police who work with a view to translating the attacker in justice.

In the early evening, the Prime Minister of Quebec, François Legault, also expressed his anger.

I am deeply shocked by the violent assault against a Jewish father in Montreal. Hatred and violence have no place in Quebec, he wrote on X. My thoughts accompany the victim, his loved ones and more particularly his children. I hope justice will be done.

The mayor of Montreal, Valérie Plante, said she was troubled by this assault.

In a publication on the social network Xbroadcast on Saturday morning, the mayor said herself troubled by the violent and unacceptable attack against a father of the Jewish community. My thoughts go to the victim and his relatives. THE SPVM will make all the light on this disturbing eventshe added.

This assault was first reported on Friday by the Montreal Journalwho broadcast a video where we see a Jewish man being beaten by another man, alongside young children.

The Quebec minister responsible for the fight against racism, Christopher Skeete, also reacted to this event on X Friday, saying that This hatred that we transpose to people who are different must cease.

I am very disturbed by my viewing of this video where a person in the Jewish community seems to be attacked free of charge in front of his child, whose cries of which we hear.

The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) responded to a call made at 911 around 2:45 p.m. Friday, about a fight at the intersection of the avenues of the sword and Beaumont, in the Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Expension district.

According to the first testimonies, it seems that a 32 -year -old man has been hit several times by a suspect. The suspect, who fled before the police arrived, has still not been arrestedreported Manuel Couture, media relationship agent at SPVM.

The reasons surrounding this attack are unknown at the momenthowever, he said.

The victim suffered injuries that do not put his life in danger. The investigation of SPVM is still in progress.
