The jellyfish obstructed the drums of the cooling water filters of one of the country’s largest nuclear power plants. The other two reactors were already stopped for scheduled maintenance.

According to the group, there was no consequence “On the safety of installations, the safety of staff or on the environment”. The central teams are mobilized and currently carrying out the diagnostics and interventions necessary to be able to restart the production units “safely”.

Local media attribute this phenomenon to the rise in marine temperatures linked to global warming and the development of invasive jellyfish. The increase in lodges of jellyfish, favored by warmer and rich in plankton waters, has already caused similar disturbances in several energy facilities in other regions of the world.
