Gaza | About twenty countries, including Canada, fear the forced departure of NGOs

In one voice, with around twenty other countries, Canada goes there on Tuesday from an official declaration towards Israel, demanding that humanitarian space be protected at a time when “essential international NGOs could be forced to leave the Palestinian territories occupied immediately”.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Australia, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Slovénie, From Switzerland and the United Kingdom, as well as the high representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs argues that “humanitarian suffering in Gaza has reached unimaginable levels. Famine takes place before our eyes. It is urgent to act now to end famine and reverse the trend. ”

“New restrictive requirements relating to the registration of essential international NGOs” could aggravate “even more the humanitarian situation”, can be read in the Declaration.

“We urge the Israeli government to authorize all the convoys of help from international NGOs and to remove the obstacles that prevent essential humanitarian organizations from carrying out their operations. Immediate, permanent and concrete measures must be taken to facilitate safe and large-scale access to the United Nations, international NGOs and humanitarian partners, it is written. All passing points and all roads must be used to allow the massive delivery of aid to Gaza, in particular food, nutritional products, shelters, fuel, drinking water, drugs and medical equipment. The use of deadly force must be prohibited on distribution sites, and civilians, humanitarian workers and medical staff must be protected. »»

In conclusion, the signatory countries say they are “grateful to the United States, Qatar and Egypt for their efforts to obtain a cease-fire and to establish peace”.

“We need a ceasefire that ends the war, so that the hostages are released and the aid can enter Gaza freely by land. »»
