A 67-year-old swimmer died on Tuesday at the Maux-de-Fonds (NE) pool after a young boy fell on him by diving into the basin, said the Neuchâtel police. The swimming pool had been evacuated in the afternoon when a rescue intervention was underway, we learned earlier.
(Keystone-ATS) The young boy landed on the man domiciled in the region after jumping from the five -meter diver. Seriously injured, the swimmer died on the spot from his injuries, the police wrote in a statement.
An investigation was opened. The boy involved in the accident has not yet been identified. The pool evacuated and closed to the public during the intervention must reopen on Wednesday.
This accident occurs when the recently renovated swimming pool has officially reopened at the start of the season. The renovation, which cost more than 11 million francs, had been started in August 2023. Its inauguration, scheduled for last year, had been postponed to 2025, due in particular to unfavorable weather.
