Pinterest opens a new branch in Zurich with the inauguration of its Engineering Excellence Hub. The American social media company thus intends to optimize the user experience on its platform through automatic learning, indicates Pinterest. The Zurich team will work on the development of solutions for AI and for the shopping infrastructure.
Pinterest welcomes two new talents: Matthias Zenger, appointed Vice-President Engineering-Platforms, will be responsible for the technical infrastructure and the Pinterest engineering platform. It has more than 25 years of experience in software development, distributed systems and trade technologies, depending on the company. Until March 2025, the new vice-president worked, according to his LinkedIn profile, more than 20 years at the Tech Google giant, where he last held the position of General Manager for platform and infrastructure solutions for merchants.
At the same time, Mirjam Wattenhofer was named Distinguised Engineer at Pinterest. She also spent more than 18 years at Google as the main Engineer, until the end of July 2025, according to her Linkedln profile. As part of her new functions, she will take care of the evolution of E-commerce technologies in Pinterest and optimizations for users on a global scale, according to the press release. Mirjam Wattenhofer is an expert in the construction of robust infrastructure, especially in the fields of e-commerce and shopping, added the press release.
