Since the end of June 2025, Disney + has been authorizing account sharing again with people outside the home, but this time against a supplement. A practice formerly free is now paid, with variable prices depending on the subscriptions.
According to RMC CONSODisney + launches in France a new option called “Additional subscriber”. This feature allows you to share your account with a person outside the home, but this practice, formerly free, now becomes a charge. An error message is displayed if a user tries to connect from a device not recognized by the main household.
An option now paid
With this new rule, Disney + offers an official solution to continue to share your account, under certain financial conditions. The cost of the additional subscriber depends on the formula subscribed. For subscribers to offer “Standard with ad” At 5.99 euros per month, the addition of an outside subscriber costs 4.99 euros per month.
For offers “Standard“at 9.99 euros per month and “Premium” At 13.99 euros per month, the price of the additional subscriber increases to 5.99 euros per month.
Only one additional subscriber is authorized by account. This person must be at least 18 years old and reside in the same country as the main subscriber. It will have its own identifiers, but will not be able to modify the subscription or access the account parameters.
Disney + follows Netflix’s strategy
Disney + recalls that a “foyer” corresponds to devices connected to the main home. Regular connections from other addresses are blocked without this paid option.
With this device, Disney + follows the path opened by Netflix, which had set up similar restrictions from 2023. This measure aims to limit unauthorized sharing and to secure the income of platforms. Disney + had already launched this option in other European countries such as Belgium before extending it to France.
