Australia took control of the first Germany Grand Prix of SAILGP, in Sassnitz, at the end of a spectacular opening day, this Saturday, August 16, 2025, marked by a speed record and a spectacular collision between the United States and Great Britain.
The Australian Flying Roos leaps lead the ranking (32 points), ahead of New Zealand and France (24 pts each). Led by the Vannetais Quentin Delapierre, the Tricolore team distinguished itself by winning a solid second place during the second regatta and remains in the race for the final podium.
Sanctioned Americans
The day also saw Denmark establish a new speed record at 103.93 km/h, while the German local team signed an inaugural victory acclaimed by its audience. The former record of 99.97 km/h had been established by Quentin Delapierre in Saint-Tropez in the third season.
The Americans, sanctioned after their collision with Great Britain, are forced to abandon for the rest of the weekend.
After two missed Grands Prix at the start of the season but a convincing American part (6th in Los Angeles, 3rd in San Francisco and 3rd in New York), Delapierre and the Tricolores are keen to shine in Europe to climb in the classification where they currently point out, after seven meetings, in sixth place.
The French became a fear during a training race, weighed down by a spectacular accident at high speed. The team was the victim when the starboard saffron broke, while the French boat progressed at full speed. More fear than harm, finally.
The competition resumes Sunday at 3:30 p.m., with France still in the race to play victory.
